Following a decision of the Board of Directors of 2° Investing Initiative (2DII) France, Thibaut Ghirardi, 31, has been appointed Managing Director of the French office of the think tank that was founded almost 10 years ago.

A rapid rise for this AgroParisTech and HEC Paris graduate who joined 2DII a year ago as Senior Manager in charge of the Finance ClimAct project. 

The 2DII France team now counts more than 15 people, including 6 new hires since the beginning of March.

An “atypical background” but an unwavering desire to make an impact

As Thibaut Ghirardi acknowledges, his career path is “atypical” and was built “as his experience progressed”: with the initial ambition of becoming a forestry engineer, he started his higher education in agronomy school. After learning about life sciences and industries and the environment, he soon developed a keen interest in environmental issues and sustainable development. With his diploma from AgroParisTech in hand, he went on to earn a Master of Science (MSc) in sustainable development from HEC Paris. Gradually, he discovered a more powerful lever than companies for achieving impact in the real economy: financial institutions, which, through their investment decisions, can make significant contributions to achieving the climate objectives set by international bodies.

Thibaut started his career as an ESG Analyst at Astorg, the private equity management company, before joining PwC France. There, he held the position of manager in the Sustainable Development team and coordinated various projects in the fields of climate change and responsible finance, such as carbon footprint, climate strategy, life cycle analysis, and extra-financial reporting on behalf of clients including SMEs, financial institutions, and CAC 40 companies.

Five years later, in March 2020, he seized the opportunity to join 2DII to contribute even more actively to the alignment of financial markets with climate objectives and to encourage financial institutions to invest in projects with a positive impact on the economy and the environment.

A wide range of responsibilities

As Managing Director, Thibaut Ghirardi will be responsible for defining the strategy of the French entity, in relation with the international entities of 2DII. He will also work on HR issues, including recruitment, staff development, as well the cultivation of partnerships with numerous private and governmental bodies in France and in Europe. Finally, he will focus on development and fundraising to enable 2DII to continue to devise new methodologies and original tools independently.

Finally, Thibaut will be involved in coordinating major projects conducted within the think tank.

About his nomination, Mr Robin Edme, President of the Board of Directors of 2DII France said: “In the few months since he joined us, Thibaut has demonstrated his ability to unify, share his enthusiasm and transmit it to the 2DII teams. Thibaut Ghirardi said: “The 2DII teams have been doing an exceptional job for almost ten years. It is a great source of pride to have their confidence and that of the Board of Directors. We will all work together to continue to strengthen our expertise and increase the reputation of the organisation, with the aim of maximising the impact of our actions on the financial markets and with public authorities “.

In his new role, Thibaut Ghirardi will work in close collaboration with Gabrielle Couderc, who is responsible for the administrative and financial management of 2DII France and of the whole network.

Thibaut Ghirardi devient Directeur Général de l’Association

A la suite d’une décision du Conseil d’Administration de 2° Investing Initiative (2DII) France, Thibaut Ghirardi, 31 ans, est nommé Directeur Général de l’entité française du Think Tank créé voilà bientôt 10 ans.

Une ascension rapide pour ce diplômé de l’AgroParisTech et d’HEC Paris qui a rejoint 2DII voilà un an en qualité de Senior Manager en charge du projet Finance ClimAct. [1]

L’équipe 2DII France compte aujourd’hui plus de 15 personnes dont 6 nouvelles embauches depuis début mars.

Un “parcours atypique” mais la volonté immuable d’avoir de l’impact

Comme Thibaut Ghirardi le reconnaît, son parcours est “atypique” et s’est construit “au fur et à mesure de ses expériences” : ambitionnant de devenir ingénieur forestier, il a débuté ses études supérieures en école d’agronomie. L’apprentissage des sciences et industries du vivant et de l’environnement lui ont permis de s’intéresser de près aux sujets environnementaux et au développement durable. Son diplôme de l’AgroParisTech en poche, il a donc complété sa formation initiale par un Master of Science (MSc) en développement durable, obtenu à HEC Paris. Progressivement, il a découvert un levier plus puissant que celui des entreprises pour obtenir un véritable impact sur l’économie réelle: les institutions financières qui, dans leurs décisions d’investissement, peuvent largement contribuer à l’atteinte des objectifs climatiques fixés par les instances internationales.

Thibaut a démarré sa carrière chez Astorg, la société de de gestion en capital-investissement, en tant qu’Analyste ESG – Environnementaux, Sociaux et de Gouvernance – avant de rejoindre PwC France, où il a occupé les fonctions de manager au sein de l’équipe Développement Durable et coordonné divers projets dans les domaines du changement climatique et de la finance responsable – empreinte carbone, stratégie climatique, analyse de cycles de vie, reporting extra-financier,… –  pour le compte de PME, institutions financières, entreprises du CAC 40,…

5 ans plus tard, en avril 2020, il a saisi l’opportunité de rejoindre 2DII pour contribuer encore plus activement à l’alignement des marchés financiers sur les objectifs climatiques et inciter les institutions financières à investir dans des projets ayant un impact positif sur l’économie et l’environnement.

Une large palette de responsabilités

Au titre de ses fonctions de directeur général, Thibaut Ghirardi sera responsable de la définition de la stratégie de l’entité française, en relation avec les entités internationales de 2DII ; il interviendra également sur les aspects RH – recrutement, progression des équipes,… – ainsi que sur le développement et l’animation des partenariats avec de nombreuses instances privées et gouvernementales en France comme en Europe ; sans oublier la recherche de fonds et de subventions permettant à 2DII de continuer à développer des méthodologies et des outils originaux en toute indépendance.

Enfin, Thibaut sera impliqué sur la coordination des projets majeurs conduits au sein du Think-Tank.

A propos de sa nomination, Mr Robin Edme, Président du Conseil d’administration de 2DII France a déclaré : « En quelques mois, depuis qu’il nous a rejoint, Thibaut a démontré sa capacité à fédérer, partager son enthousiasme et le transmettre aux équipes de 2DII. Sa jeunesse et sa passion, conjuguées à son expertise sont, pour nous, un gage de réussite incontestable ».

Thibaut Ghirardi a déclaré : “Les équipes de 2DII font un travail exceptionnel depuis bientôt dix ans. C’est une grande fierté que d’avoir leur confiance ainsi que celle du Conseil d’Administration. Nous allons travailler tous ensemble afin de continuer à renforcer notre expertise et à accroitre la renommée de l’organisation avec pour objectif de maximiser l’impact de nos actions sur les marchés financiers et auprès des autorités publiques“.

Dans ses missions, Thibaut Ghirardi travaillera en étroite collaboration avec Gabrielle Couderc, qui est responsable de la gestion administrative et financière de 2DII France et de l’ensemble du réseau.
