ZEIT für Klima: Digital Earth Day Event

How do we design a more sustainable, resource-efficient, and fairer society?

The ZEIT publishing group will be discussing this question in different formats over the course of 2021, from Earth Day on April 22 to COP 26 at Glasgow in November.

To kick off on April 22nd, ZEIT has invited leading climate activists, scientists, business representatives, and politicians to talk about, among other topics, the chances of achieving the 1.5 degree target; the shift to a low-carbon economy; and climate issues in transatlantic relations. 2DII’s Managing Director (Germany), Jakob Thomae, will speak during the session “Transformation of the Economy, Part 2: The Role of Financial Services and Capital Markets” from 12-12:45pm Berlin time.

Other featured speakers throughout the day include Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director, Centre of Sustainable Development, Columbia University; Alexandra Palt, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer, L’Oréal; Bill McKibben, American environmentalist and journalist; and Saskia Bruysten, Co-Founder and CEO, Yunus Social Business.

The digital event starts at 10 a.m. and ends at around 6.45 p.m.

2DII today announced it is transferring stewardship of the Paris Agreement Capital Transition Assessment (PACTA) to RMI, formerly Rocky Mountain Institute. PACTA measures financial portfolios' alignment with various climate scenarios, including those consistent with the Paris Agreement. Under RMI’s stewardship, PACTA will remain a free, independent, open-source methodology and tool, and will continue to provide the financial and supervisory community with forward-looking, science-based scenario analysis to help users make climate-aligned financing decisions. RMI will invest in scaling up PACTA’s usability and applicability in day-to-day investment decisions as well as reporting requirements.
