We are recruiting an intern to join 2DII's 1in1000 Program on future risks and challenges.

No later than January 17th, 2022
6 months

Your main assignment will be to perform research on long-term risk management and mitigation. This will involve developing tools to measure (stress testing, scenario analysis), monitor (dashboards, anticipation tools) and mitigate (impact assessment tools) “1in1000” risks.

About the role:

You will mainly contribute to two specific projects within the 1in1000 program:

  • A project in its initial development phase aimed at building an open-source database that helps financial institutions, supervisors and central banks to develop risk and sustainability profiles for SMEs. This database should contain data from SMEs in Austria, France, Germany and Spain. The databank will be the basis for a web-tool helping banks in their lending processes to SMEs.
  • A study of the alignment of the recovery from the Covid crisis with low-carbon objectives in Latin America, aimed at informing a new online dashboard.

Depending on your profile, tasks will include desk research, data analysis, referencing, statistical modelling and contributions to our studies and reports. We appreciate it if you have either a background in economics, statistics, sustainability, business or finance and monetary policy/financial supervision, as well as data science – but please note: this is not a must-have!

Desired qualifications:

  • Good level of understanding of finance or a desire to learn. Previous work or internship experience in finance, monetary policy or risk management topics is a plus.
  • Experience and motivation to work on mitigation of climate change and impact, as well as 1in1000 risks such as pandemics, breakdown in social cohesion, or biodiversity.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English (ability to read Spanish is a plus)
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following fields is a plus (you are not expected to master them all!): a) climate finance b) statistical modelling (especially with R) c) SME ecosystem in the EU d) low-carbon transition challenges in Latin America
  • Experience in working with data and data management is a plus

We offer:

  • Inclusion in the team from the very beginning with own responsibilities and the space to bring up your ideas
  • A dynamic team with a lot of fun and passion for our mission
  • A personal line manager that will support you with your professional and personal development
  • Participation in high-level events, workshops and interviews conducted with practitioners in finance
  • A salary of €1,800 / month
